How to Read a Token Before You Buy (Liquidity, Holders, Contract)

A 60-second checklist before any buy: real liquidity, holder concentration, and contract privileges.

You'll need: The token's contract address and a block explorer.

Steps

  1. Confirm the contract is verified on a block explorer — an unverified contract is a stop sign.
  2. Check real exit liquidity: what you could actually sell into, not the headline number. A one-sided pool showing millions is a red flag.
  3. Check holder concentration: if a few wallets hold most of the supply, they can dump on you.
  4. Check LP status: is liquidity locked or burned, or can it be pulled in a rug?
  5. Check owner privileges: can the owner mint, pause, blacklist, or change taxes?
  6. If anything is upgradeable or opaque, size small or skip it.
Watch outHeadline liquidity is often the token side valued at market price — not what you can sell into. Always measure real exit depth.
