How to Verify a DeFi Contract Before You Sign
Don't trust the marketing site — read the actual deployed code. Five steps to check a contract before you interact.
You'll need: The contract address of the token or protocol.
Steps
- Find the contract address from the official source (not a search ad or DM).
- Look it up on a block explorer (Etherscan for Ethereum, PulseScan/Blockscout for PulseChain).
- Confirm the source code is verified and read it — a red 'unverified' badge is a stop sign.
- Check ownership and privilege: can the owner mint, pause, blacklist, or upgrade? Upgradeable means the code can change.
- For a token, check LP status, holder concentration, and real exit liquidity before buying.
Watch outAn audit is one signal, not a guarantee. An upgradeable contract can change after the audit — treat recent reviews as a point in time.
